What causes type 1 diabetes? The causes of type 1 diabetes appear to be much different than those for type 2 diabetes, though the exact mechanisms for development of both diseases are unknown. The appearance of type 1 diabetes is suspected to follow exposure to an "environmental trigger," such as an unidentified virus, stimulating an immune attack against the beta cells of the pancreas (that produce insulin) in some genetically predisposed people. Can diabetes be prevented? A number of studies have shown that regular physical activity can significantly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. It also appears to be associated with obesity. Researchers are making progress in identifying the exact genetics and "triggers" that predispose some individuals to develop type 1 diabetes, but prevention, as well as a cure, remains elusive. Type II diabetes is when you still make insulin but your body does not use it properly. By eating sweets and lots of carbs it will not make you become a diabetic. If you are over weight and stay that way for a while you do have a increase risk of developing diabetes. If your parents were diabetic or if you developed gestional diabetes while pregnant you have a greater chance of getting it. The best think to do is try to maintain a healthy weight and exercise. YOu can still have those sweets and carbs but you need to work it off or not eat a huge amount every day. In other words eat a few cookies not the whole box or a helping of noodles instead of 3. a nurse
