My wife has a small lump on the joint of her middle finger just where it bends (the joint nearest the nail). At first she thought it was a seg or blister coming up as it was sore, but it has proved not to be. It is no longer sore. Just a hard lump that has been there since last summer.

I think she should get it checked at the doctors, but she says she isn't going with something as silly aa a little lump on her finger. What could it be, and should she get it seen?

It sounds like it might be a callous. Does that spot get rubbed or pinched frequently?

It also could be a wart.. or maybe a calcium deposit.

It might not be a bad idea to get it checked out at the doctor. If she wants to not spend the money, just have her mention it at another visit for which she is being seen for a different reason... like her yearly check up.

It sounds like a ganglion cyst. They are painless and are more of a nuisance than anything else. Here is a simple site to read more about them:
Ganglion
I have known of several woman to develop these and some have had surgery to have them removed. An orthopedic doctor is who can make that decision should you decide to have it checked out.

I agree it sounds like a ganglion. They can be surgically removed, but the reason to do so is to relieve symptoms. If it doesn't bother her, there'd be no reason to do anything about it. Of course, the only way to be sure is to have it seen; whatever it is, by your description the chance of anything serious is very small, indeed.

It does sound like a ganglion cyst, and sometime it bothers you and sometimes it doesn't. I've had two removed surgically, but both of mine were hurting me. I kept hitting mine all day at work, and they both got really sore and painful.

A cyst or a wart, I agree. If it gets rubbed a lot, it might be a callous. But, as with any lump, it should be checked out ASAP. You'll just be all that more relieved when it turns out to be nothing.
If it doesn't bother her, after she's been to the doctor, then she can leave it alone, but if it does bug her -or you!- it can be removed quickly and painlessly.
