One of my friends said that if you go to one extreme temperature to the exact opposite, you could go into shock, he told me his dad (Member of the EMT) told him this when he went swimming and got out of the cool pool and went into a really warm shower, then getting right back into the pool. I don't believe that this can happen, 'cause I do it all the time, coming from outside when it's almost 100 degrees into an air conditioned house, also coming from below zero temps in the winter to a really warm house. Nothing happens to me!
Someone please post who knows what their talking about so I can finally know the truth and tell him that either I was right or I was wrong. Post ASAP, I wont be on long.

In terms of extremes of temperatures, shock can and does occur. For example, a person exposed to the sun and heat can develop Heat Shock, that is well known and the reverse is true for extreme cold. The body is unable to function outside its optimum temperature zones. That is why seizures are known to occur even a few degrees above and below norms. It depends on age, health, and predisposing conditions. I am looking for links for supportive data and will update when i do find them. For now, I hope this helps. The reason, Gizzy, you were not affected is there was not enough of a temperature change in your own body to promote serious reaction in yourself.

Here is a link regarding Heat stroke
