As with any fresh water tank filtration is a must. The rule of thumb is you want the filter to change the water over in the tank 6 times / hour. A ten gallon tank should have a filter capable of pumping 60 gph (gallons per hour). I prefer the 10X ratio. My 110 gallon tank has two 400 gph filters. My 15 gallon tanks have 150 gph filters. Goldfish are a 'dirty' fish. They eat alot and make alot of waste. A filter with a bio-wheel will help eliminate the ammonia that builds up with excess fish waste. If you do have an extra dollar or two, add a aerator with a air stone. NC
