About two weeks ago a school near me sent home two goldfish to each first grader. Yesterday, one of the goldfish where I stay died. I asked the first grader to go to his class and find out who in his class still had their goldfish. Ends up, about half the class, both of the goldfishes died. The other half has one left, and only two kids in the class still have both goldfishes. His class has about 25 boys in it. Is it wrong for the school to be giving out these goldfish to the kids? Shouldn't they be asking the parents about sending home the goldfish before the kids bring the fish home?
I'm sure the purpose behind the goldfish were either to teach the first graders responsibility, or to expose them to death. I would hope that the teachers sent a letter home with the children explaining to the parents that their child would be given these fish...or maybe it was just a holiday gesture on behalf of the teacher...

no letter of explination of how to take care of the fish. Just a gift to all the kids. Boy was the mother of the family I board at surprised when she finds out that she now has two fish to take care of in addition to her own 8 (soon to be 9) kids!
