I have a red colored algae in my tank. My pleco will not eat this alage and I have been told that it is not harmful to my fish by any means. I was also told one way to get rid of it is to take out my plants and decor and soak them in bleach water, then rinse them several times in dechlorinated water. Does anyone know if there any other way to get rid of this red algae?
A few years back, when helping my granddaughter set up her new aquarium, the bag of pebbles and rocks had, as part of instruction, a notice to wash all of them in a water/bleach solution. Thought it strange at the time but now since reading this article I know why. Of course, we followed that step and her tank has never developed any algae. Not sure that it actually would have but this may be why it hasn't.

one of the major solutions that is mentioned in all sites and/or articles for controlling red algae are Siamese Algae Eaters. Unfortunately, you will be hard pressed to find these in the US. Some specialty places may have them, or be able to get them.
Be sure you are asking specifically for Siamese Algae Eaters and not Chinese Algae Eaters (these won't help you with the red algae).
