It's my sister in laws silver wedding on July 21st and I haven't a clue what to buy them. Their house is full of what I call 'ethnic' things and they don't have anything ordinary. They simply would not display 'normal' silver wedding gifts etc.

Maybe try looking in a used antique store? They usually have some things from other countries.

Hi Jenny! Maybe you could go to a coin shop and buy some silver coins. Or how about some sterling silver jewelry for both of them -- rings for both or just him and a necklace/bracelet for her. Good luck!

You could always wait until it's a golden anniversary and buy them a goldfish. In the meantime send a card Smile Silver is way too difficult ( no, you can't send silverfish and say I suggested it; anyway, she probably calls them firebrats)

Jenny, take a look at Vixen's "Ruby wedding anniversary" thread just down the page. The commemorative certificates are available for silver anniversaries too. If you're interested, e-mail me and I'll send a picture of my ruby certificate and such details as I have.

LOLOL @ Fred!!! That's pretty funny! As I read your post about goldfish, I thought of silverfish immediately, but you beat me to it!

How about a silver card - with lots of silver (rolled coins) - enough for dinner perhaps? THAT would be a few rolls! Just thinking, but it's not the right time of the day for my most creative thoughts! LOL!!! Roll Eyes

The Longest Day, very funny Ritz! Personally I would give them a medal. It's my silver wedding next year and I will certainly be buying myself one. I think I deserve it for putting up with him for that long. Big Grin
Ewood, I looked at that thread first before posting this. The certificates are great but definitely not to their taste. Thanks anyway!
I was out with a friend all day yesterday and I asked her if she had any ideas. She suggested a dinner service, after all they have to eat! We looked at a few and found some with very 'ethnic' patterns on them. I haven't bought anything just yet but thats one idea I will keep in mind.
Thanks everyone else for your ideas. This is really difficult. All the time I have known them (27 years) I have never seen them using anything I have bought them for birthdays, Christmas etc. Really don't know why I bothered. There again, I have never used anything they have bought me because it has been far too 'weird' Smile Smile Smile

I'd search stores like Pier 1, or better yet, funky import boutiques or ethnic grocery stores for hammered silver dishes, urns, or decorative items that would fit the "ethnic" decor of the couple's home.... India, Sri Lanka(Thailand) and Mexico are good nations of origin to focus on, as all have a rich tradition of silversmithing.Good luck and happy hunting!

You could buy them wine charms with unique charms.

Sometimes the best ones are eclectic charms that you find and put together yourself. It's quite easy.
