At least it wasn't Ken Dodd's house that burnt down. There might have been a lot of cash that burnt with it  Note to the uninitiated: Ken Dodd was prosecuted (and acquitted) for tax evasion. Part of the evidence was that he had kept vast amounts of cash at home. The Revenue wanted to know why he did this rather than bank it and suspected that it represented undisclosed profits from his shows. His answer,put briefly, was that he was a bit eccentric about money. He now, years later, says that the Revenue and he are still friendly.After all, he says, they still keep writing to him ! |

).Diddy means 'tiny' or 'very short'. Perhaps with a nod to 'treacle mines', Ken Dodd invented this fantasy that tiny little men, 'diddy men', worked in the local 'jam butty mines'.
