1927 in Dallas, Texas. Southland Ice Company began selling milk, bread, and eggs, in addition to ice during evening hours and on Sundays when grocery stores were closed.

Stores did not become known as 7-Eleven until 1946. Prior to that they were called Tote'm stores because customers "toted" away their purchases.
