How is it possible that Astor was born in the 1700s when he was still alive for the Titanic sinking?

John Jacob Astor(born Johann Jakob or Johann Jacob Astor) (July 17, 1763 - March 29, 1848) was the first prominent member of the Astor family and the first millionaire in the United States. He was the creator of the first trust in America, from which he made his fortune in fur trading, real estate, and opium.[1

No it won't (note my address:Antibes is about 15 km away Wink) Nice was once Italian or, rather, ruled by the House of Savoy. There was no 'Italy'. And the great Italian patriot, Garibaldi, was born there. After him there was an Italy to speak of.

You could have given Britons another clue: think of biscuits! The Garibaldi biscuit is a thin biscuit containing currants and was devised in his honour when he visited London. It was supposedly based on the simple foodstuffs he had when on his long march. It is unknown in Italy. Coincidentally, there is also a Nice biscuit in Britain. It's oblong (the Garibaldi is round) and has no currants but is otherwise much the same.

One of those odd facts that I like so much about history is that Garibaldi once worked as a candle maker in New York.

Excellent Fred. ( I thought the biscuits would give the answer away) Nice was indeed named Nizza in time . Garibaldi was quite a man.

Here is his life story.
