What is the subject matter of the calendar currently being sold by the Texas Library Association, featuring female librarians of the TLA, to help raise funds to repair damaged libraries ?

Are you referring to "The Tattooed Ladies of TLA calendar"? If so,
these women volunteered to reveal their ink (tatoos) and share some of their stories for the well-being of our state's libraries.

As sung by Julius Marx in "At the Circus"

My life was wrapped around the circus.
Her name was Lydia.
I met her at the world's fair in 1900,
marked down from 1940.

Ah, Lydia.
She was the most glorious creature
Under the su-un.
Guiess. DuBarry. Garbo.
Rolled into one.

Oooooooh
Lydia oh Lydia, say have you met Lydia,
Lydia, the Tattooed Lady.
She has eyes that folks adore so,
And a torso even more so.

Lydia oh Lydia, that encyclopidia,
Oh Lydia the Queen of Tattoo.
On her back is the Battle of Waterloo.
Beside it the wreck of the Hesperus, too.
And proudly above waves the Red, White, and Blue,
You can learn a lot from Lydia.

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

When her robe is unfurled, she will show you the world,
If you step up and tell her where.
For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paris,
Or Washington crossing the Delaware.

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

Oh Lydia oh Lydia, say have you met Lydia,
Oh Lydia the Tattooed Lady
When her muscles start relaxin',
Up the hill comes Andrew Jackson

Lydia oh Lydia, that encyclopidia,
oh Lydia the queen of them all!
For two bits she will do a mazurka in jazz,
With a view of Niagara that nobody has.
And on a clear day you can see Alcatraz.
You can learn a lot from Lydia.

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

Come along and see Buff'lo Bill with his lasso.
Just a little classic by Mendel Picasso.
Here is Captain Spaulding exploring the Amazon.
Here's Godiva but with her pajamas on.

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

Here is Grover Whalen unveilin' the Trilon.
Over on the West Coast we have Treaure Island.
Here's Najinsky a-doin' the rhumba.
Here's her social security numba.

{whistles}La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la

Oh Lydia, oh Lydia that encyclopidia,
Oh Lydia the champ of them all.
She once swept an Admiral clear off his feet.
The ships on her hips made his heart skip a beat.
And now the old boy's in command of the fleet,
For he went and married Lydia.

I said Lydia
{He said Lydia}
They said Lydia
{We said Lydia}
La La!

Question: Who was 'Mendel Picasso'?

Answer: This is a Jewish joke. Mendel is a Yiddish, diminutive, name from Menachem. The idea here is that some Jewish tattooist has adopted the name Picasso because it sounded better than his real name and suggested artistic skills and associations.

And the last stanza was written to satisfy the censor.Having the woman married off was more seemly and moral than leaving her single and carrying on as described earlier.

[The joys of the internet! Big Grin ]

Second and third questions: What is dg's tattoo? May we guess?

Really? How disappointing. Does it have her "social security numba" in it? I was expecting at least the words 'ex libris' on her somewhere Frown

OK, all of you, enough already! Big Grin

I have NO tatoos. Never been into the whole tatoo thing, although they can look good on some people.
I have one body piercing, and that's where any adventurousness in body art begins and ends. Smile

One? Confused That's more intriguing than any tattoo. Is it for hanging the library keys on?

Fred, you are in luck, as I managed to break her PhotoFile password and get to a pic of dg the day her hubby gave her the piercing.

We're still waiting for the librarians' answer to Calendar Girls. The original calendar girls were ladies from a Women's Institute in Yorkshire.

Come on Canada ! The Women's Institute started in Canada!

No, no, no! Big Grin Only the one of Spit is genuine.

And Fred, regarding a calendar, sorry to say you're out of luck. There aren't enough even half decent pics of me to to take a calendar through to March. You'll have to take my word for it. Smile
Of course TIE might offer to pose for April through December!
