I would say either :

A) You are an inveterate gambler

or

B) You slipped something into the drink of a Yank or a Canadian.

Well, Bedstor, I'd have my doubts.

'Laying a Yank (or Yankee)' or 'Laying a Canadian' would be what the local Newmarket girls tried to do in World War Two.

'Laying a yankee [not Yankee]' would mean that you were a bookmaker accepting a multiple bet. It consists of the punter picking four horses (one in each of four races) and the bet is every combination of doubles, every combination of trebles and a four timer ( a four horse accumulator) that is 6+4+1 = 11 bets

PS I'd never heard of a bet called a canadian.It turns out to be the same as a 'super yankee' (which would be no surprise to NNN or dg).It's a bet on five horses.

The best named of these multiple bets is the 'heinz', consisting of bets on six horses and so called because it consists of 57 bets

Funny what you overhear in Betting shops (And its the correct Terms)
such as
"I have a 10p Twist bet"
"I have a Canadian riding on the next horse"
"I fancy a 10 pence Each way Yank"
"Pound Roll-up" = Straight Accumulator

There is also an "Any to Come" bet and I Shall make no remark about that here (Do your own research!)
