Gotcha again, Jenny ! Whisky, although meaning "water of life, " is from Gaellic, not Latin.

SR does is again ! While I have only seen it spelled "akvavit" it is still the same. From Latin aqua vitae (water of life), the Scandanavian (all that I have seen is Danish) distilled spirit flavored with mainly carraway, sometimes dill, and other herbs and spices.

For those that are sure is was vodka, vodka means 'little water.'
