Mozart I can't wait to find out the answer. Various sources I have found claim broadly different numbers. Do we really know?

My source is a serious article. And the web page address ends in .org.

1) Although less than 5% of the population suffers from severe mental illness, they comprise an estimated 20-40% of the homeless population. Per :calPsych.org

2) * Approximately one-third of the estimated 600,000 homeless people in the United States have a severe mental illness. Per : NamidaneCounty.org

3) A HUD site said 25%, but it is PDF so I did not link. It seems like sources vary a lot.

Dogspit your first link fits more what I have than your second link. Remember, I mention "serious psychiatric disorders".

Your second link is from 2001 and doesn't seem to have the right figures. Especially that I found my name at the bottom of that page under:

"The following people have experienced one of the major mental illnesses
of Schizophrenia, Manic-Depression or Major Depression" Big Grin

What I have is that the homeless people in America represents roughly 1% of the population (3.5 Million). And about 22% of these homeless people have serious psychiatric disorders, or about 770,000 according to a study. Source (bottom of the page). So I give you the points. BTW your third link would actually be closer at 25%.

Unless any other serious source could contest this one. Smile
