He is Brian May, guitarist of Queen. Universities in the provinces often choose, as their Chancellor, somebody famous who is not noted for special academic ability. Liverpool John Moores is different.Its last Chancellor was Cherie Blair QC, otherwise known as Mrs Tony Blair. Brian May studied to be an astrophysicist and had written his PhD thesis before getting diverted into a career with Queen.
