Why is a tiny pedigree Bishon Frise dog called Charlie being entered in a competition against stapping young Men in Wigan?

PS Show this to Puppy she'll want one of these as an avatar? Cool

A similar question could read " why was a frog in "Trois-Riviere" voted off a jumping competition"? Big Grin : These are local tiny little news around the world in tiny little cities every day.

Bedstor, Mozart isn't saying that your question is vague. He's saying that everything that happens in every village, town, and city in every country in the world isn't trivia. Much more often than not, things that are of local interest are just that, things of local interest.

Ah, but this isn't in just 'every village, town and city'. This is in Wigan !

Wigan is famous, at least as far as Manchester, and down South, even worldwide , it's known as the home of a famous pier; that and the town were celebrated by George Orwell (The Road to Wigan Pier ); and,in England generally, for a notable Rugby League team. (It is really odd how some towns are known Smile )

Too right, Fred !

I found some very interesting information on Wigan:

Here

Alternate Universes come and go, but in the case of Wigan, it would appear a more stable existance has evolved. Located within the Ancient Kingdom of Great Lancashire, Wigan has gone on to become one of the greatest towns in the history of Bolton. When the sun is in the seventh house, Jupiter is aligned with Mars, and the moon is the Sign o' Baal, Wigan materialises for a short period in the next largest hole to Manchester.

I was going to post some trivia on the little town I live in in Southern Ontario, but I don't think anything at all has happened here since the neighbour's dog got abducted by a coyote in 1964.

Mozart,
I have been to Trois Rivieres, and I know you are making that stuff up about the frog jumping competition. They banned it because there were too many injuries. Big Grin

Bolton,dg ? Wigan is renowned as the Latin Quarter of Bolton Smile

Could be worse, newswise. A journalist on the BBC reported that the newspaper for her home town once had this as its lead headline:

WORKSOP MAN DIES OF NATURAL CAUSES

By the way,the British ex-pat community has 'Frog jumping' contests all the time in Antibes. Roll Eyes

"This is where the Northern Soul nights originated"

This may account for Otis Redding's early demise.

We should be having this discussion in the other area. Mozart?
And Yes, I agree. It does need more faces in the Rogues Gallery. Last submission was quite a ways back! Frown

Two problems:

1)I'll will have to get the plate camera down from the attic and find some plates to fit it. Pretty sure nobody makes them any more.

2)I am a black dog.May need flash to get any result.Definite fire hazard (all that powder going off )and consequent risk of loss of eyebrows, not to mention flaming dreadlocks Frown

Anyway,I am already in the Rogues' Gallery viz. Scotland Yard pursuant to an unfortunate incident involving Edward VII, a horse, a Gaiety Girl, a banana and me (but at least I extinguished the cigar by, er...water Wink) Roll Eyes
