I wrote them to supply more information, since not all households in China have electricity. I generally do not trust Trivia sites, having seen too many errors that they refuse to correct, citing that they "saw in on the web." I really want AP to be as accurate as possible.

According to this, in 1997 89% owned a television --- of course, it doesn't say color television. Thanks for the info on trivia sites---never know whether they are a dependable source or not.

China Economic Review - December 2002/January 2003
TV makers face market shake-out
A survey of China's television market has concluded that competition will reduce the number of producers over the next five years from 40-50 to no more than 15, South China Morning Post said. The survey, conducted by the government and the industry trade association, found that the domestic market was saturated, with 96 percent of urban households already owning a colour television set.
---------------
China has 1.2 billion people, 80 percent of whom live in rural areas. Ergo, only 20% live in urban areas. It's not unreasonable to assume that a population split of 80/20 would give a household split of the same percentage.
Which means...19.2% of all Chinese households own a colour TV set (96% of 20% is 19.2%).

Thanks for that information, Adi. Once again, AnswerPool has shown why it has the best Trivia on the Net, and easily the most accurate; the people who post care enough to make it that way.
