All states have their state birds, state flowers, etc... . Alaska has a rather unusual state category that most other states don't have. What is this category, and what is the item in it?

Sailracer is right, as usual!

Alaska has a state flower too. It's the alpine forget-me-not. It was chosen in 1949.

I was looking for the fossil. Good job sailracer!

Most states, I beleive, have a state flower. I also beleive Alaska is either the only one or one of very few to have a state fossil!
