How long is the pipe and what is the inlet pressure? From Crane Technical Paper # 410 (Flow of Fluids Through Valves, Fittings, and Pipe) the flow of 60 F water through 100 feet of 6 inch schedule 40 steel pipe versus the pressure drop is as follows:
Flow = 100 GPM; delta P = .036 PSI
Flow = 200 GPM; delta P = .130 PSI
Flow = 500 GPM; delta P = .720 PSI
Flow = 1000 GPM; delta P = 2.68 PSI
Flow = 2000 GPM; delta P = 10.3 PSI
**for lengths other than 100 feet, the pressure drop is proportional to the length. Thus for 50 feet of pipe the pressure drop is approx one half the values given above.
