This weekend we rented the new release of the Stepford Wives, thinking that it would be about wives and the husbands who tried to make perfet wives then Whoop there it is the "gay couple".

Wait there was a gay couple in the original version and the book too - right?

No? Do you think there should have been in the new version? Or does it kind of take away from the Stepford Wives and make it more along the lines of the Stepford, Wives & Domestic Partners.

This may be irony but I was pretty much put off by it, I mean seriously, isn't anything sacred anymore?

The original movie, which stuck fairly close to Ira Levin's novel, was thought-provoking, timely, and genuinely eerie. And watching Katherine Ross has never been taxing on my eyes .

I refuse to see the 2004 version until hearing a positive review by someone whose opinion I trust, and I gather your review is not positive! My understanding is that it is more a spoof than a remake, with excessive yet lame comedic distraction to the point that the genre has been changed altogether. Perhaps the introduction of a gay couple is evidence of this.

Thus far, my only entertainment from the remake is derived from your new title recommendation - now THAT was timely

Aren't they all made to be like housewives from the 50s? If so, yeah, that kind of messes it up. A big anachronism.

I think that would kind of mess it up, too. That just gives the movie an almost different meaning from the old version.

Well the Movie was a comedy - I hate that to begin with. Then in the deleted scenes you learn more and the movie made a tad bit more sense.

I was expecting the drama and the sincerity that came with the first Stepford Wives movie, that tale was kind of scary and was a social commentary - the new version is more like a parody.

The "gay wife" was a flamboyant "nelly queen" who was converted into a conservative running for office kind of guy. Obviously this screen writer had very little understanding of the gay man's psychology to see the flaws in that "perfection". And the stereotyping was terrible.

Maybe I should have put this in Movies forum? Moderator may move it there is they feel it should be there.
