quote: Although not called "marriage," AB205 bestows upon domestic partners who are registered with the California Secretary of State (not to be confused with domestic partners registered with local municipalities or employers) all of the same rights and obligations available to heterosexual married couples under California law, as of January 1, 2005.
So there, we have been registered since January of this year (2004).
http://www.ourfamily.org/ab205.html Goes on to point out that this is meaningless when it comes to the Feds - but heck, we (California) may just end up leaving the USA anyways - who needs the Feds?
So is this an acceptable alternative to Marriage for those who are against Gay Marriage?
Are the Christian Fundamentalists chomping at the bit? Will they be chomping at the bit when they discover that this was done rather quietly here in California and that Arnold finalized this thing which has come to pass? After All Knight's Law (Prop 22 in 2000) pretty much passed in a land slide - the no gay marriage law.
quote: Knight told SN&R he would support something short of marriage if same-sex-marriage advocates called off their quest for the real thing. "I'd be willing to compromise," Knight recalled saying at the meeting. "We might be able to come up with some system that would allow, for example, domestic partners to be registered, and they would have certain rights associated with that, in consideration for [ending] all of the efforts to change the definition of marriage."
Sounds like that tired old 'Separate but equal' dreck. This whole thing has made my blood boil forever. Why do people think--I mean I really don't understand this--why do people think that it takes away from their str8 marriage somehow if any other combo is allowed to marry? Why does marriage need to be defended? How is it being attacked? wzlwmn

Massachusetts calls it marriage; gay marriage has been legal here for over 6 months. I think over a thousand couples thus far have been wed under this new law, the majority being women. What's the big deal??
