A gay man charged with helping his lover loot a wealthy school district has asked a judge to rule that state law protecting spouses from having to testify against each other also applies to same-sex partners.
Stephen Signorelli, fighting charges that he stole at least $219,000 from the Roslyn, New York, school district, is seeking to bar testimony by his longtime companion.
Prosecutors have yet to respond to the motion and Judge Alan Honorof has not indicated how he might rule. Here's a link.
Could this open up a whole new can of worms in case of all couples living together (straight or gay), if they were faced with the same or similar situations?

I have rather ambiguous thoughts on this. If marriage were allowed to homosexual couples then they could be legally protected, but they aren't. There are many couples that have deep committments to their relationships but can be forced to testify. Is this right? I don't personally think so.
I wonder how the judge will rule.
