Police: 'Cuban Wrestling Champ' Fights 6 OfficersGRESHAM, Ore. -- A man who told police he was a five-time Cuban wrestling champion battled six officers before finally being taken into custody Saturday, police said.
Police said Worter Torriente-Vela, 28, injured three officers in a fight with six officers, who used a Taser on him four times.
Another officer radioed for more backup before joining the fray when he saw that a Taser had been deployed against Torriente-Vela with no effect, police said.
Three more officers arrived to assist in detaining Torriente-Vela and, after using a Taser on him three more times unsuccessfully, the six officers were able to hold him to the ground long enough to handcuff him, police said.
Once police had him in custody, Torriente-Vela told officers that they had "messed with the wrong one" and that he was a five-time Cuban National Wrestling Champion, police said.
The officers said that Torriente-Vela was incredibly strong and managed to break through all their holds and Tasers seemed to have no effect on him.
Three officers suffered injuries, varying from their wrists, backs, hands, arms and elbows, police said. - Portland News
I guess it's a good thing that there were 6 cops. I do have one question, though. How many cops would it have taken had the guy been sober?
This from another source on the incident -
During a three-minute-plus scuffle, five officers and four Taser shots were needed to subdue Torriente-Vela, who is about 5-feet-11 and 190 pounds. I guess the cops were lucky that he wasn't a big guy. He probably wrestled at around 170 pounds. (Wrestlers gain weight easily out of season.)
From a couple more sources -
The brawl included billy clubs and tasers, which had no effect on the suspect********
More officers arrived, and, after a three-minute struggle, they were finally able to force the man to the ground.Six cops (half of whom ended up injured), 7 taser shots, billy clubs, and it still took 3 minutes.
