Here's my day-late-and-dollar-short reply, mistakenly posted here. Happy Mother's Day to mothers everywhere!

When I was at work at the library on Saturday, a friend was using one of the public computers, and she called me over to look at a Mother's Day e-card she had just opened from her daughter, who lives on the west coast. Forget those overly sentimental cards with puppies and kittens, this was way better. It said: Mom, Thanks for always thinking about me to the detriment of your own mental health I went to the site, and here are a few others, When you actually see the cards they are incongruously juxtapositioned with charming 50's style 'happy family' drawings: Thanks for putting your dreams on hold so I could fail miserably at pianoor Mom, thanks for teaching me about boundaries by never observing any.I liked this one: I'd have made you breakfast in bed if you'd taught me how to cookor maybe, Dad was incredibly lucky to have you before the marriage crumbledHow about, I hope a mediocre Mother's Day brunch can help negate 364 days of smug ingratitudeand finally, For enduring the bloodcurdling torture of my adolescent years I promise to always keep your electronics functionalMaybe it's just my warped British sense of humour, but I thought these were funny. The site had cards for very occasion, all at least as tastless as this sample.

Yeah, and that's just the two teenagers, Bob. As for my 9 year old, she at least made me a card, although I have yet to recieve it! She and I were sitting watching television on Friday night, and she was working away at some project that I wasn't allowed to look at. As she asked me questions it became clear that she was writing an acrostic poem using my real name, and she did say it was for Mother's Day. She kept asking me for words that fit certain letters. When she got to "E," I suggested "energetic." She looked up, rolled her eyes at me and said, "No, Mummy that definitely won't work." Anyway, it got to Sunday, and she withheld the card because I made her do her homework and get a shower, so apparently I've ruined her life too.

dg, Verily I say unto you: "Yeah, have you never read 'Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise'?"[Matthew ch. 21v.16 ] Look how perfected her praise is,that thou hast! 'Hysterical' is a nice touch. Look on the bright side. She's left out 'energetic'. Being energetically hysterical could be a case for Child Protection. They might take her away! On the other hand....
