In Britain you would call it a blizzard, in Canada we call it snow flurries. Anyway, it has started snowing here, and we could get up to 10" of snow by tomorrow. It's -7c (19 F), which is reasonably mild. There is, however, a -16 windchill. I have stocked up on the usual staples; wine, cigarettes and food, so things should be ok.

I remember when I was still in the UK, and getting ready to move to Canada. It was Boxing Day in the UK, and when I went outside, it was -5c. I was really feeling the cold, and wondered if I'd be able to stand the Canadian winters. Amazing how one adapts, because -5 is quite mild, when you have experienced -30 with -42c windchills. In fact it's practically T-shirt weather here in the winter.

Went there to get my new dress shirts laundered, to get the newnesss out; used to send them to Cairo, but there they now use too much starch ; and have the studs recalibrated by my little man off the Rue du Rhone. Ok, about ½’ of snow fell yesterday morning, but it changed over to rain / sleet and the wind howled all day. Constant east, north east wind of 25MPH with gust up to 50MPH until about 5:30PM.
Then my living barometer (My dog) “freaked out” and got scared . He was shaking like he does about an hour before a thunderstorm and becoming very clingy to me. (Basically tried to climb into my pocket)
I took him down to the beach to take his mind off it, and noticed on the ride there, there was no wind . I was at a beach (north side on the Sound) when the wind started picking up. Within 10 minutes it was a constant 15-20MPH, now blowing from the west, north west. It picked up to 30MPH with gusts over 50MPH.
A big low pressure system, almost a Nor’easter had just gone over us . The wind howled the rest of the night and even the ferry cancelled many trips Sunday, and into today.
The seas in the Long Island Sound generally don’t get too big (4’-6’ is considered “ really rough”) but there were 12’+ seas out last night into this morning . They have calmed down to about 7’ now .
It was cold to boot, high temperature today was 33ºF (.5ºC) and when I woke up it was 24ºF (-4.4ºC). Couple that with the wind and it is a bit brisk out there .
Have I ever mentioned that I HATE WINTER .
And YES I know that it is not winter yet and the days are almost as short as they will get, but it is already cold and not looking to get much better for a while.
I HATE winter.

Absolutely !If you too are interested in betting, Ladbrokes are offering 5 to 1 online against a white Christmas in London .The definition is that settled snow must be reported there by the Met Office on December 25th itself. The last snowfall in central London on that date was in 1999, when a few snowflakes fell and settled. That's hardly what constitutes a proper white Christmas but the last year when there was a carpet of snow there then was 1895!
As to being used to weather: In Geneva at minus 4 Celsius the only local I saw wearing an overcoat was a woman wearing one for fashion.Back in Antibes at plus 7 Celsius the locals all look like Antarctic explorers fresh off the Terra Nova !

Weather Now? Dry Cold(slight breeze) - 2F -10F by morning? Then 40F/sunny spells daytime. Outlook Same, till Wednesday then Showery,which will raise the Temp to maybe 50F

After our hurricane the first week of December, we've all been walking on eggshells around here I think!
Since then it's been the normal rain, gloom, just a teeny bit of sun now and then for the most part....
This morning I walked out into a very nasty morning though, and the forecast wasn't good...on the way to work it was about 30mph through absolutely POURING rain, so hard you could barely see even with wipers on full blast - and winds of about 50mph I think. It wasn't fun. Normally I watch for deer, this morning I watched for falling trees!
But then, throughout the day it got better - a bit of high winds on and off...but heck, if my office survived 90+mph winds during the "big storm", I wasn't too worried.
I just hope we don't have too much more bad weather this winter!
I was in Beverley, UK, (again) last week and we had minus 3°C. But when I got back to Paris two days ago, it was even colder. Yesterday morning at nine a.m. it was minus 7. Today at the same time it was minus 6.
