The Court of Appeal has ruled that 'breasts' does not mean male breasts.

The judges allowed an appeal by Kevin Bassett, who had been convicted of voyeurism of a man by St Albans Crown Court (Judge Plumstead [who is a woman Smile] and a jury). The appellant had been in the changing- rooms of a swimming pool.Lord Justice Hughes said the question was whether the man watched had been doing a private act in a place which in the circumstances which could reasonably be expected to provide privacy and whether, since he was bare-chested and wearing trunks, breasts were exposed within the meaning of the statutory definition.

A man need not expect privacy of his upper torso.

Casual observation by changing-room users created no offence of voyeurism, even if they gained sexual gratification from what they saw.

Ok, I know it's not Britain, but it follows on nicely:

Oregon:
A woman seen frequently in Ashland riding topless on her bicycle says she plans to be in Ashland's Fourth of July parade free and independent of all clothing but a hemp G-string.

The Ashland Chamber of Commerce learned of her coverage plans from an online posting. She promised to lead in-line skaters "wearing only a hemp G-string and blowing a conch shell."

Oh those wacky West Coast hippies ! Big Grin

The link refers to this being inappropriate for a 'family' event, yet a 'family' can see this woman topless in the public park in the city. The link (q.v.) suggests more.People are required to cover their genitalia in a park and the commercial district. What, nowhere else ? Confused

From today's papers: This weekend there's the World Worm Charming Championships in Cheshire. There are odds on how many worms will be charmed. Paddy Power bookmakers, are offering e.g. from 12-1 for fewer than 100 to 4-1 for 401 to 500 and also on how big the heaviest worm will be e.g. 3-1 for more than 5gm.

Barnet Council, in North London, is offering a 'pray and display' ( Roll Eyes) parking permit. Priests and other religious officials, from 11 recognised faiths, may apply for a permit allowing them to park in 'residents only' and other parking spaces without being fined or clamped. The listed religions include Rastafarianism and Zoroastrianism, being faiths recognised by the 2006 Equalities Act.

Smokers fined for throwing cigarette butts in the street will have their £75 fines refunded if they give up smoking for a proven 28 days. They will be given a list of local stop-smoking courses with the fine notice. The scheme is running in Rushmoor, Hampshire.

The Councillor is right but for the wrong reasons Smile It's not one for the Elfin Safety. The flag is right at the front of the vehicle, on top of the radiator. It would be illegal by virtue of Road Trafic laws (Construction and Use Regulations) unless it had an inbuilt safety feature. No mascot or flag is allowed at the front otherwise. That's why the 'Spirit of Ecstasy' on a Rolls Royce is spring loaded to detach on slight impact (not, as commonly thought, so the owner can walk off with it). You'll notice that people who have car mascots, such as a model racehorse carrying their colours, have them set near the windscreen.

Mickey Mouse loses trouser buttons shock!
Cambridge Magistrates have fined The Disney Store £4,000 with £1,700 costs for selling Mickey Mouse toys with trouser buttons which were not stitched on firmly enough. The effect on an infant finding Mickey losing his trouser support could be shocking.("So bad I nearly choked" said a spokeschild)

Did you see how Labour Performed in the Henley Byelection It must be their wordt ever result in Red faceness
quote:
The Conservatives easily held the seat vacated by Boris Johnson, the London Mayor, with a majority of 10,116. But Labour only came fifth, behind the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party, and the BNP, with just 1,066 votes.

Somebody blamed the Leadership for not giving support Mind you Henley Has never been anything else but a Conservative "safe seat" but the swing away from Labour was off the scale! Eek
And Since Blair went they have never won a seat
http://tinyurl.com/6ob5b3
Crewe and Nantwich which was one of their safe seats Swung to a Tory Majority Frown
And there is a silly byelection coming up
with the sittng MP Putting Himself up as a Vote of confidence
Yet get this, No other principal party nor the principal undesirable parties are fielding Candidates Bar the NF (Not expanding as they are nasty pieces of work)

Church of the Militant Elvis Party
Freedom 4 Choice Party
Socialist Equality Party...

Henley? Do they count the Conservative votes in Henley? I thought they just weighed them and made an estimate !

The Monster Raving Loony Party were a disappointment. In the current climate they ought to have got more than 242. At least they did better than the Miss Great Britain candidates.

Labour(1,066) was outvoted by the Liberal Democrats ( 9,680) Greens (1,321) and the British National Party (a.k.a, 'the not very covertly racist party') who got 1,243. That's what happens in by-elections.

The Conservatives got 19,796.

Meanwhile in Gateshead The Food Nazis(as this article aptly terms them) are now interfering with the salt Shakers design in the Local Chip shops! Eek

www.digitaljournal.com/article/256733

quote:

Problems facing the United Kingdom include pot-holed streets, crumbling schools and garbage in the streets, yet councils in the UK have decided to spend taxpayers money on producing and distributing salt shakers with 5 holes to local chip shops.
Food Nazis or public health service?

It started with the Gateshead Council who spent taxpayers money to research how much salt was being used in take out foods.

They sent their officers out to collect data, obtain samples of fish and chips, measure the amounts of salt in the foods and "carried out experiments to determine how the problem of excessive salt being dispensed could be overcome by design."

Then they declared they had a solution, 5 holes in salt shakers instead of the typical 17.

They further spent taxpayers monies on commissioning Drywite Ltd which is a catering equipment company to make their 5 hole salt shakers, which they bought 1,000 of at £2,000, then they went and handed them out at fast joints in their local areas.

Worth a stand alone posting for this Classic?

Could be worse , Bedstor. Imagine that they got a law or regulation passed which dictated the number and size of holes. They could send inspectors out, equipped with measuring devices ! As it is, the hygiene inspectors (who do an excellent job) have so many regulations that often overlap that one cracked sink gives rise to about six breaches. What they could do about the holes in a salt pot , given the chance..... Big Grin

In fact, this is not, of course, any law. It's simply a promo and the chip shops may take or leave the proffered gift. Why the householders of Gateshead, which is far from being the richest town in England, should pay for this nonsense is another question (as is 'How can a salt pot cost £2'?)

From Surrey
quote:
Poor kids on a posh estate face tough night-time curfews - while their rich pals roam free.

The 9pm restriction on the 480-home development applies only to youngsters in housing association accommodation - which makes up nearly one in three of the houses.

They are also barred from playing outside in groups of more than three because estate bosses claim it intimidates well-off neighbours.

Mums and dads of children who break the draconian rules risk eviction. But those whose folks own homes on the estate - some for up to £600,000 - face no such curbs.
link

Getting more like American Housing Associations every day I'll bet they don't allow commercial vehicles on to the estate nor allow residents to hang out their Laundry to dry...and so on Frown

Right. I'd like to see the Housing Association try to evict someone on those grounds Wink

The 'groups of three' rule is particularly unenforceable in practice, never mind what the prats in the Association think about the law.

Yes, Henley is Conservative and very wealthy too.

My sister lived there for a while. Her husband's job means that they have to attend a lot of social functions. On occasion she bought her ball gowns from the charity shops in Henley. You get a better class of second hand shop there Big Grin

Oxfam, the charity for famine relief, retains fashion buyers to pick out the top items donated, which it then sells in its select shops devoted to fashion.Henley must be good but, for a real shock , you should try the charity shops off the Kings Road, Chelsea! The stuff there is often new and unworn as well as top quality and fashion, having been of a fearsome price new. Some will be 'this season' and a lot is classic (and made for normal women, too). The conventional second-hand shops, 'exchanges', in Knightsbridge have a lot of good stuff but much of it is only of use if you happen to be a woman about 6 foot tall and a UK size 6 ! (We think that models get given a lot of clothes and dispose of them through these outlets)

Ian Noll,39,from Merthyr Tydfil,South Wales, was given a 12-month community service order at Newport Crown Court and ordered to take 'an enhanced thinking skills course' [The Times]

By the way,the gas in Britain is natural gas and isn't poisonous.
