Has anyone ever had a horizontal surface piercing below the belly button? I am considering it and am a little curious. Does this require more care than a plain navel piercing? Does it take longer to heal? Thanks.

I looked around on the internet and I see no indications that this kind of piercing is any more difficult to heal than the standard belly button piercing.

It is important to cover the site with dressings for a while after the piercing so that clothing doesn't rub and irritate the site, to keep it clean in exactly the way as instructed, to not swim or submerge the site in water until it is healed.

The same rules apply for any piercing anywhere on your body.
1) Be sure it's really what you want.
2) Go to a reputable place.
3) Do what they tell you as far as bandaging, keeping it clean, giving it air, etc. A piercing is a big responsibility and might well get infected if you aren't careful.

Just keep it clean, whatever you get done.
As far as pain, that's not really something that can be measured. Different people have different tolerances. I was fine with three of my four ear piercings but one of them (the middle on my left ear) hurt like a BI***. And some people have pain with every piercing, some people can get tattooed without wincing. It's really relative.

I think the biggest problem with this kind of piercing is that is is often done unevenly. It is hard to grab hold of the skin and pierce it sideways. I think it would hurt a lot. If they pierce it unevenly you can't hide it. With a regular pierced naval you an buy jewelry to make it look more even if it leans. With a sideways piercing.. it is right out there in the open. It is either even or it isn't. (you cant hide it if its crooked) I have see some pretty 4 diamond jewelry for piercings. It is still too new for me to try it.

Thanks for the answers. I had by belly button last year and saw on a website the horizontal and it looked good. My navel is doing well didn't hurt at all. This one though I am thinking harder about. Thanks again.
