i never knew this, but recently a lot of stomach bugs are going around and a girl at work is recooperating from a bacterial infection in her stomach. lots of vomiting etc.
the doctor told her to THROW away her toothbrush and use another one until she finished her meds then get another one once better. each time it is used she rinses it the soaks it in listerine for a few minutes before putting it in the holder.
it never dawned on me to do this- when vomiting up the virus and bacteria are left on the brush from brushing your teeth and aren't necessarily washed off during the rinse.
so to get better faster- pick up a few new tooth brushes at the drug store when you get your meds!
Wouldn't you be immune to a virus you've once had? I've never heard of someone infecting themselves with a virus they have themselves. It would make sense if someone else uses the same toothbrush, but I don't think that's a good idea anyway.
You can reinfect yourself sometimes, it is definitely a good idea to practice sanitary habits. Normally healthy people should rinse their brushes under hot water, to get rid of more germs, and they should be changed all together every three months. Also, wash your hands all the time, like Sherasi said. If there is no hot water to use (like at my loooovely job), take alcohol wipes.
