All mammals yawn --- including fish. Some scientist think that it's a vestige of our earliest ancestors -- a sort of signal to others before words came into being. Interesting little article about yawning -- still quite a mystery why we yawn. Part of the reason that we do is that it's a way of stretching that part of our body but this site discounts the theory that we yawn because our bodies need the oxygen. Thought you might enjoy it --- or it might make you yawn.
I've heard about the idea that we yawn as a social trait passed down from our ancestors. And I also learned in my anatomy class in high school that we yawn because our bodies use it stay awake.
