Hi Blueeagle, What you're looking for is going to be either CPT Codes or ICD-9 Codes. The CPT codes are usually a 5 Digit code and the ICD-9 is a three digit code. Examples of these are on this site: CPT codingHere's another site. Now I googled for CPT codes and there are several site but most are for training. You may be able to get CPT code book at your public library. If you're really concerned about the charges on your bill, you can request a detailed bill from the place your receiving the bill from. Then call the number on that bill and discuss it with them. Coding can be tricky, I took Insurance Billing for a while when I was going into Medical Records. The thing that gets complicated is which one they choose to place as the primary reason for being treated, it involves not only the acute diagnosis, but also there may be chronic problems. That's when it gets complicated, because they have to bill it a certain way, so that the insurance will not reject it. I dropped out of that class, because it got very complicated when it came to the heart. It was a self taught course, watching videos, and I just got overwhelmed with it. You have to really know alot about medical terminology, as well as anatomy. It can be very descriptive. Good luck in your billing questions, sometimes it takes several phone calls to the insurance company, as well as the doctor office to finally get it straightened out.
