For you folks 'in the know', please check out the item offered for sale at the following URL and give me the benefit of your expertise.

http://airhealth.com/index.html

It is a UV light that you install in your a/c duct work to kill mold spores, etc.

Thanks in advance for the info. Smile

This is not a very effective way of removing particulates from the air. I think it might qualify as a scam.

Here are somethings that I notice that make me say "hmmmm"... I searched for the technical information and only found this:

"Through laboratory testing *, it was found that a single air+health unit reduced the population of the test bacteria up to 90% with only a single exposure to the UV light. Other bacteria and molds will not always have these results with a single pass. Practical application of air+health in HVAC systems will expose the air in the building to many passes by the light. This allows for effective reduction of bacteria and mold with high UV energy requirements for sterilization."

The asterix comment located way down the information said "* Testing done by Kane Environmental Assays. The test bacterium was Serratia Marcescens ATCC 14756. The test ductwork size was 18” x 18” galvanized ductwork with airflows of 500 and 1000 CFM and the reduction efficiencies of 90% and 66% respectfully."

So in other words, they tested one type of bacteria and if the air flow was flowing faster the effectiveness went down. The one type of bacteria they used may be very sensitive to UV light... more so than other types? Maybe that type of bacteria isn't even present in most households? They did not test mold removal or any other type of bacteria... hmmm....

They don't provide very much technical information which is a critical part of selecting a air cleaner. I searched other more well known manufacturers to see if they offered similar products and found nothing. I think that you need to wait on this one until some more reputable manufacturers start offering the technology.

It is just a light bulb so there can be no patent of this product that prevents others from offering the technology.

I would recommend checking out Honeywell products or other Hepa Filtration systems... and change your filters regularly. Mold and bacteria are not a big problem in areas where there is air circulation (like inside ducts)... more likely to be a problem outside of ducts in closets and closed off spaces.

If an air filter really works they will have all types of tests to prove it. If it doesn't work they will manipulate test results to make it look like it works... very fishy.

It sounded fishy to me, too. The information came in a mailing and offered a $ 20 rebate if purchased at Home Depot. I assume that HD gave these guys my address since I have an account with them.

Thanks for the info Smile
