I work in a big open-plan office, and two employees came in this morning with mumps (they went home of course, after the doctor diagnosed them). One had physical symptoms (swollen jaw, fever), the other not yet. So there may be more over the next few days.
This wouldn't normally bother me, as I am pretty healthy, and I think I was vaccinated as a kid, but am not sure. I wanted to know what the chances are of getting this, and if I were to become pregnant while I had it, would it affect the foetus?
As far as I know and have been able to find out, there is no direct effect on a baby in the womb (unlike Rubella). I suggest asking your doctor for definitive advice.

You probably were vaccinated, but that may or may not mean anything. A coworker of my husbands' got the mumps last year and we're all pretty sure he was vaccinated, too... You should probably get checked out my your doctor, if you're concerned, and you might want to hold off on becoming pregnant until the danger of contagion has passed. It probably wouldn't affect a fetus, as Adi said, but you don't want to chance it.
