I read on one of those 'random facts' sites that if you are in total darkness for 3 days you become permanently blind. (Click here for site.)

Is this true?

I don't believe that is true.. some prisoners have been kept in total darkness for months at a time.. even though their eyes are sensitive at first, their sight remained intact.

I have looked around for supportive evidence of that fact and I can't see any.

I DO KNOW that kittens who have had their eyes sutured shut before their eyes open until a certain time later.. perhaps a couple of weeks, they are blind because the pathways in the brain have not been "activated".

I thought it sounded a little far-fetched. Thanks for the info, Sherasi.
