My boyfriend broke his arm last week in a football game and got like a fiberglass u that goes around his elbow to his finger tips and it was wrapped from above his elbow almost to the end of his fingers. Well he went back to the doctor yesterday and they cut off the part covering his hand almost all the way to his wrist, it's still on the hand part way. But to get to the point, since they cut it off, it stinks, and he CAN NOT wash the smell off for nothin! how can he get rid or the smell? Or it is there until he gets it off? Is it just cause it's smelling from inside the cast too? I'm thinkin of Febreezing his cast! *LOL*
Since there is no way of removing the cast to wash it or the arm, the smell is going to continue until you get the cast off. He may want to ask his doctor if one of those removable velcro type would be ok to use. It would allow for cleaning. It has to be worn thought.
well, unfortunately I think you're stuck. You can't put any lotion, powder or anything like that into a cast as it could cause infection type problems. You also don't want to use Febreeze or any other wet solution as it can cause mold & mildew to grow under the cast (and you think it's smelly already?)...
Typically your skin cells die off and just fall to the ground, your furniture, the shower, etc... (I know, gross again). Because his arm is covered, the skin only falls inside of the cast and just sits there - and he sweats and it just again sits there.....so what you are smelling is the dead skin cells hanging inside the cast - the fact that some of this was removed has only exposed the area more.....
Don't put anything into the cast, he's going to just have to wait until it comes off...
If it is extremely offensive, he may want to contact the doctor to see if it can be replaced as there may be an infection or (yuk) mold and/or mildew already...
Mix some vinegar and water, and with a washcloth or cotton swabs, wipe the area of the hand that is exposed. You may have to do it 2-3 times. Vinegar was invented by God to stop things from smelling.
