My 16 year old has strep throat. What (besides the required prescriptions) can I give her to make her feel better, without making her to tired?
Fever, headache, sore throat and body ache.

AHH!! Help!! frown

Oddly enough, the last time I had a very sore throat, an old remedy helped me -
Hot tea with lemon and honey.

The lemon is good for mucus (I know - Ew!) - so you can leave it out if you want.
But the honey is soothing to a sore throat.

Hope she feels better soon!

Have her gargle with salt water. It works great and helps the throat to heal. Put about a tablespoon of salt in a small cup and put warm water in it. Then gargle until the salt is gone, you might have to add more water. Don't swallow it just spit it out. Do this 3 or 4 times a day or even once and it will help any kind of sore throat. Also give her some Tylenol or Ibuprofen it will make her feel better.
My husband loves that choreseptic spray that you spray on your throat it numbs you and helps. Goood luck. Hope she feels better soon.

My God, a tablespoon in a small cup of water? I'm sure you meant a teaspoon - a tablespoon will shrivel her tonsils like old leather! I sure wouldn't put more than a teaspoon in a full glass of water.

This remedy works for the throat but doesn't do anything for the other symptoms. I'd recommend Theraflu. Fixes all that and makes you a bit sleepy, so you can rest.

Catty (who had this once, and it's awful) eek

I put about a TABLESPOON (the key word is about 2 teaspoons is fine) in a glass and take a mouthful then add more water and I repeat until all the salt at the bottem of the cup is gone. I use the big Dixie cups, not the small bathroom. I put a spoonful of salt in the bottom and then gargle and spit and add more water. By the time you get all the salt gargle you have done it about 6 or so times. It is the best remedy for sore throats. But I would take Tylenol or Motrin just to make you feel better and if your nose is stuffy take a cold pill but read the label if it has Tylenol in it don't take more. Or just take a decongestant.

Oh Pup Im sorry your daughter is sick. I know the above is very good advice. The one thing they always did when I was doing my Emergency Room rotation is to alternate the tylenol with motrin hope shes feeling better soon.Sam
