Generally, the longest a human can hold his/her breath is about 2½ minutes (the average person - 1 minute).

However -
Vancouverite freediver Mandy-Rae Cruickshank set a women's breath holding (or static apnea) record of 6 minutes - 16 seconds!

Her Czech teammate Martin Stepanek holds the men's record at 8 minutes - 6 seconds!
