Because I know some of you may just read the first part of this post and make an assumption and start posting before reading the rest, so I wanted to get that out of the way.
Ok, here's the deal. This is something I've suffered from my entire life, but as I get older it seems to get worse. When I wake up in the morning I am EXTREMELY sensitive to smells. So much so, that almost anything makes me incredibly nauseas and I have to grit my teeth and choke back the urge to vomit. I can't handle anything. If I walk by the litter box I gag. I can't hug or pick up any of the pets because they're "animal" smell is overwhelming. Even "nice" scents bother me. So basically, I have morning sickness every day. The severity of the problem varies with how tired I am. The more tired I am, the more overwhelming and sickening scents become.
What causes this? Is there anything I can do to ease the problem?

That can happen when zinc levels are low. That may well NOT be the answer, but taking extra zinc might make a difference. It's in various mulitivits, at a fairly low level. You could see if your doc would give you a prescription for a higher dose.

Sometimes medications can cause sensitivity to smells. Are you taking any prescriptions right now? Do you take the medication at bedtime? Ask your doctor about some of the side effects. A sensitivity to smells may be one of them.
Another option is to make an appointment with an ear, nose and throat doctor. They specialize in that area.
