readmission within 30 days has several implications in terms of medicare: if for the same disease/condition, it can mean the physician and/or hospital may not get paid (the assumtion, I suppose, being inadequate care the first time). It also has quality of care implications, as an indicator when various criteria are monitored. As usual with bureauocracies, most especially Medicare, such an idea which was flawed in the first instance, is even worse in its execution.

We have seen alot of readmissions come back in less than 30 day's. Alot of the time it is because the insurence company is so quick to tell the doctor how many day's they have to get this patient well and out of there or they are not paying anymore of the bills. Then the patient comes back in because he/she was not ready to go home yet and who then eats the cost of the bill?
