I heard someone say that if you want to donate blood for a specific person in another city, you can donate blood at a hopital near you, and they will make a deal with the hospital where there person in the other city is. Can you tell me more information about this.

Yafa, you could contact the American Red Cross. My wife donated some of her own blood for a surgery that was upcoming and the Red Cross shipped that blood to another city where the surgery was to take place. They should have information on how you can do that. They also should be listed in your local phone book.

Yafa...I donate on a regular basis, ever since I found out I'm A-, which is not too common. I can tell the blood center that I wish to donate in anyone's name, giving the hospital they're in, and they take care of it.

That way, when receiving blood, even if not my type, that person didn't get charged for that pint.

Ever since I found out I was A- when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter, I've tried to donate regularly...think I'm up to about 5 gallons altogether over the last 15-20 years.

I personally know safe people with my blood type, so if I were ever in a life threatening situation, at least I'd have that peace of mind, that I was getting clean blood.
