Don't you think that no matter your age of course as long as you are an adult that you have the right to chose your own heath care? If you don't want any treatment done to pro long your life its your decision and yours alone? Does it make a difference if your 20 or 80? Don't you have the right to chose?

Yes, I believe that an adult can reasonably choose to refuse care, or to discontinue care at any time....provided that the person is of sound mind and fully understands what their options are and what will happen if care is refused.Doctors are understandably reluctant about allowing a patient to forgo treatment, in some cases because they disagree with the patient's choice, for a variety of reasons....Also, many a grieving family has filed a wrongful death suit, claiming that the doctor was negligent in allowing a patient who is medicated, distraught or in pain to refuse or discontinue treatment....never mind that the patient was clear about their wishes and put their intent in writing.

What makes it complicated is the natural tendency to deny illness, and to want to believe in fantasy: there's a lot of bogus treatment out there, which either cynically or naively plays on this. So as opposed to buying a used car which has had the miles rolled back, when people are suckered into bad health care choices, there's a lot at stake. Yes, ultimately people have the right to make their own choices; hopefully before doing so they will have had a full rendition of all the pros and cons by a reliable source of information. I've witnessed many instances wherein that's not the case.

Thanks guys. Some people tend to think if you are young that you can't make those type of decissions. I think it should be up to the person if sick if they would decide if they want treatment or not. I agree they should be in their right mind when making those decissions.
