Injections are not actually that bad.. the fear of them makes the experience much worse.
The best thing to do is this:
#1 tell the nurse about your fear (They WON'T be surprised believe me)
#2 Ask them to have a running conversation with you to distract you for a few moments before the injection
#3 Look away during the conversation
#4 Ask them to give the injection in the middle of the conversation and not tell you when it is going to happen. That way you do not suffer a peak of anxiety when you "KNow" it is happening.
It always works for my patients, I've given thousands of injections.

Sherasi has some excellant ideas. Many patients have are afraid of needles. So just mention it like Sherasi said. Something else I have learned is when you get a shot in your arm relax your arm by hanging it straight down by your side. You won't feel it as much and it won't be as sore afterward. If you tense your arm and bend your elbow and bring your arm around to your stomach your muscles are not as relaxed. I have notice a difference when I get my flu shot.
