I have a Pur Water Filter. I cannot get the housing open to get the old filter out to change it. It is the horizontal chrome filter that mounts on the side of the faucet.

Does anyone have any tricks to getting the filter housing open?

Hi Rick & welcome to AnswerPool!

We have a Pur Filter system exactly as described Big Grin The whole front of the round part comes off by "unscrewing" it...or turning the entire front of the unit counter-clockwise while holding the back part firmly in place. It can take a bit of muscle.

If you have hard water it could be that there is some mineral build up. If this is the case, I would probably take the unit off of the faucet, and slowly work at it - off the faucet you'd be able to put more pressure into your efforts.

If it is hard water build up that is making things difficult buy a bottle of kettle descaler
Add it to water small amount and boil the water let it stand for 10 minutes, and tip it and when you tip it out the inside will be like new the scale will has been flushed away

Note with Plastic you have to use a different formula
Is good for Irons as well Smile

Where to buy?
Your local store or Drugstore might stock it ask for Iron or Kettle descaler
If no joy a DIY store is another place to try

And a small bottle is good for a few jobs Smile

Thanks for the reply.
Right after my inquiry, I took a screwdriver, inserted into the water opening, and pried while unscrewing. Broke loose immediately.
