The Pediatrician left me a voice mail that my son's strep test was negative, but that he has an overgrowth of staphorius (sp?). He said this was not a problem as long as my son feels okay, but I want to know what this is. My google search did not recognize this word and I am not even sure of how to spell it. Does anyone have any clues about this? THANKS in advance!!!!!!

staph aureus (staphylococcus aureus.) It's a very common bug. It can in fact cause severe infections in some circumstances, but it's present on skin and other surfaces in many if not all people and generally isn't treating unless there's evidence of harm being done.

Wow, not sure what I did wrong there. What I was going to say was that interestingly enough, I was doing some research about the Staph aureus and there may be a connection to my son's on and off chapped lower lip. It gets red and puffy right beneath his lip and we use a lip balm for a few days to clear it up, and then it comes back a couple weeks later. I read about Scalded skin syndrome and wonder if this is a mild form. It seems like this might warrant the use of antibiotics; we'll let the doctor decide tomorrow. Any other comments welcomed.
