I've been reading around with various sources, and most of them say that the majority of ADD and ADHD cases were caused by non-genetic reasons.. prenatal, postnatal care, alcohol and drug use, viral infections during pregnancy, specific foods and food colorings, and a host of other reasons were cited. I have an article here from NIMH (National Institute for Mental Health) that discusses this isttue. ADD/ADHD

I really can't say Samantha, but I have seen so many diagnoses of ADD and ADHD, I have to wonder if some are misdiagnoses for people that simply have poor attention span or are bored because they are very bright, that sort of thing. Also, if there are some food reactions in the children, might not the parents also be affected by the same foods?
I know that there are genetically linked situations, but by no means all.
Also, I don't think that I can say that have some of these problems is totally bad. My sons are delightful adorable loving boys who many people love being around. Change anything about them, and you change who they are.
All people have issues they deal with (alcoholism, drug addictions, stress, depression, ADD, autism, MR, and a host of other things) and these people still manage to have happy and productive lives.
I tend to think that what you EXPECT out of life is what you ARE GOING TO GET.
