If you look carefully at the edge of the contact there is a tiny "bezel".. a slanted edge that shows you the correct alignment of the contacts. the inside edge of the contact should be longer than the outside. It does matter as the contact needs to be fitting correctly against your eye to function optimumly. If you have any further troubles, go see the specialist that fitted them to you and have them help you out.

I think I wore them inside out most of the time I had them in yesterday. I'm still not quite sure what a "bezel" is, but I think I understand the other things you said and I will be looking for that next time I put them in.

Yes, it does matter which way you put the lense in. I usually hold the lense on my finger and look at it- if it is curved and looks round it is the right way, but if the corners look flat and it bends funny then it is the wrong way. Just check both ways before you put it in and soon you will be able to tell easily which way is correct. If it hurts when you put it in then it is the wrong way.
i use to always have trouble telling if my contact lenses where inside out and only really noticed when one felt uncomfortable. Now my contact lense has a small letter on it and can now tell which way the contact lense is meant to go, may be you can change brands.
