I hadn't realized that there were specifications that long after pregnancy. I just heard of a new technique of blood donorship where it is called "Double Red" but you have to have a very minimum weight/height requirement. Very interesting technique discussed: quote: The American Red Cross [offers] the opportunity to donate two units of red blood cells in one donation. Here's how it works.
Special technology will be available at select community blood drives. Blood is collected from a donor's arm, just as it is in a standard whole blood donation. The difference with a double red cell donation is that a machine separates the red blood cells from other blood components , and returns the remaining components back to the donor. By doing this, the machine is able to double the amount of red cells it would normally collect in a standard blood donation.
This technique is offered at my work place, but women have to be 5'5" and 175 pounds now to do it. Since I am 5'4.5" and 150 lbs, I am no longer eligable to do it. Men have to be 5'1" and 150 lbs.
