Clare took the words out of my mouth. When I am not pregnant I get migranes alot. And when I don't have a migrane, I have a regular headache. I swear my brain doesn't like me

Anyway, with a migrane, generally there is an aura. For me its flashing lights and the smell of vanilla. Sometimes I hear faint laughter too. Then after about 5 minutes of that the pain starts. For migranes I find a little bit of caffeine and an aspirin - not acetominophen - works wonders. Migranes are thought to be caused by overfiring of the synapses in the brain, and for some reason caffeine calms them down.
HOWEVER, caffeine for just a headache has the opposite effect. This is because a regular headache is caused by too much blood in the brain. For a headache, I take acetominophen (aspirin thins the blood and actually makes the head ache worse, I find) and lay with my head elevated. It usually takes a few minutes until it starts to dissipate.
Another trick a little old Filipino lady taught me once was accupressure. If you press on your eyebrows, towards the middle, you will find a spot that hurts to push on. Push on this spot kind of hard (yes, it does hurt), on/off/on/off for a couple minutes. Then lay with your head up. I don't know why it works, but it does.
