People have a cycle called "Circadian Rhythms". Some of these people have a slightly longer cycle which is why they are less able to be alert in the morning. Those who are awake and up and about almost immediately in the morning have an almost exact 24-hour cycle. Here is an article that discusses this phenomenon.

I'm by nature, a "Night Owl" - but I've been forced into a day routine. Argh! So I'm used to waking up at dawn and then becoming very sleepy in the afternoon or at least by night. <---Me yawning Yet my personality changes when the sun goes down - I feel more natural, energetic and alert(when allowed to follow my own time schedule), and more willing to do things. Mid-afternoon is the hardest time for me. Guess that's part of my bio-rhythm too. PS - I was born at dawn! In fact, so was my Night Owl daughter. My Night Owl son was born in mid-afternoon (Did I say something about that being a hard time for me? ).
