Yes, that definitely sounds like the smallpox vaccination. I do not have the exact numbers, but smallpox was eradicated from the United States in the seventies, so children stopped getting the vaccination because there was no threat. Smallpox was eradicated worldwide in the eighties, I believe. The fear now is that terrorists may have gotten hold of batches of smallpox and could use this as a biological weapon. This is an extreme threat because anyone about twenty-five or younger has never been vaccinated, and the vaccinations of the older folk might not be effective any longer. They don't have a lot of the old vaccine left, and that vaccination was not a very pleasant experience, from what I've heard. So they have been working on developing a new vaccine. It had been deemed pretty successful, until it started killing people with heart problems...
No, you are not senile. You were vaccinated, and your children were not. And it will be up to you whether you want to be re-vaccinated and whether you want your children to be vaccinated, when the vaccine becomes available to the general public.

Georgia, that is a question presently in the mind of doctors and scientists as well. (And who would volunteer for exposure to this deadly disease "Just to find out"!)
