My son found a deer tick on him. What is the proper way to save and keep the tick alive til we can take it to the health dept. for testing on Monday?

When I had a deer tick on me once, the doctor said to put it in some closed container and soak it in alcohol. If the tick were to have lyme disease, the disease would be contained in the tick with the alcohol. Testing for lyme disease would be very easy, even though the tick would drown in the alcohol.

If the tick has been on your son for less than 24 hours, than he would not have contracted lyme disease even if the tick was infected. Still call a doctor, though.
